Employment History

Logica / UWV September 2007 – May 2008
The UWV is the Dutch social security administration, and Logica was awarded the contract to design and implement its new disability benefits payment system using a service oriented architecture (SOA). My role in the core generic team is to provide business process management middleware services, and to offer architectural guidance and act as a beacon of best practice to around 20 BizTalk developers in the functional development teams. The middleware services also report management information for BPM tracking, and implement the error handling elements of the BizTalk Server 2006 R2 enterprise service bus architecture provided in Microsoft’s ESB Guidance.

Avanade / Shell July – October 2006
I returned to my previous client Avanade, hired by the lead BizTalk architects from the EMI project, as a trusted safe pair of hands to firefight a deathmarch on an SAP integration project. My role as senior developer and technical authority included extensive mentoring of Avanade developers.
Accenture / KPN Telecom August 2005 – June 2006
I was the replacement lead BizTalk architect on this high-profile BizTalk Server 2004 project that integrates the billing systems of 1.6 million broadband customers using over a hundred long-running orchestrations. Duties have included performance tuning and configuration, including extensive rearchitecting to achieve optimal throughput, and designing a robust and resilient side-by-side deployment solution for fuure releases. Alongside my architectural and mentor roles, I assisted with the design and development of the second and third releases. Contract renewed four times.
EMI Music June – August 2005
I returned to my previous client EMI for a short contract upgrading the project I had previously worked on from BizTalk Server 2002 to BizTalk Server 2004, which went live on schedule with no significant problems. I also developed new functionality and advised on the performance and tuning.
Accenture / NHS National Programme for I.T. (NPfIT) April 2004 – May 2005
I was
contracted to Accenture working on the world’s largest civilian I.T. project
that uses BizTalk Server 2004 as its core integration technology. I worked as a
BizTalk resource in a variety of roles across application architecture,
development, testing and operational support, including spending two weeks

Accenture / Avanade / EMI / Cassium November 2003 – April 2004
I was contracted through Cassium and Avanade to Accenture’s client EMI, working in EMI’s global architectural strategy group for reengineering their worldwide EAI architecture using BizTalk Server 2002. Tasks included architecting a tool for deployment of BizTalk artefacts and related components across multiple BizTalk installations worldwide. My project at EMI involved the architectural design and implementation of integrating SAP with iSeries MQ and Web Services, which went live on budget and on schedule and is considered internally as a major success. My contract was renewed, and I returned a year later to the client.

I returned under contract to Solidsoft, a highly-respected Microsoft Gold Certified Partner now best-known for their specialism in BizTalk, as a Microsoft technologies consultant on a succession of short consultancy projects each typically lasting two to four weeks, working on-site alongside clients that included the Inland Revenue, NHS, BT, Securicor, and Hertfordshire Police. About half of these projects were BizTalk-related; all of them .NET and C#. My contract was renewed numerous times.

Reuters March 2001 – July 2002
I worked as a senior developer in the CTO Innovation Lab, a small team that evaluated and experimented with all the latest Microsoft products and technologies in prototypes and demos in order to demonstrate their value to the business and to top-tier focus account customers, championing findings to product development groups for integration into future products. With input into the design process of new Microsoft products, nearly all work was performed on beta and pre-beta releases of forthcoming products. Development was centred around the .NET framework in C# using Visual Studio.NET; projects vary enormously and gave me a huge level of exposure to soon-to-be-current tools and techniques.
